KAFENION...A GREEK COFFEE SHOP
In the villages of Greece, you would always find at least two kafeni, no matter how small it was, but with different colors. The colors indicated the political party of the owner of the kefenion. This way you avoided political quarrels. Rather practical it can still be found, but it has become more and more rare.
To make coffee the same way we Greeks do, you will need a special piece of equipment called a briki - a long handled, small brass pot with a broad lip, tampering toward the top. We use specially prepared coffee that is roasted and ground to a fine powder, and served in small cups. When we sweeten our coffee, we do so in the pot. Therefore you need to know how your guests take their coffee, - without sugar (sketo), with some sugar (metrio), or sweet (glyko). To make one cup, flidzani, small demitasse cup of coffee, place one teaspoon of very finely ground coffee beans in the briki, add sugar to taste, then a cup of water and slowly bring to a boil. One important rule to follow: sip deliberately slowly in order to leave the gritty sediment at the bottom of the cup.

Athens if known for producing the famour and distinctive white wine Retsina that is made by adding a small amount of pine resin at the beginning of fermentation. It is definitely and acquired taste! Mavrodaphne is full-bodied, sweet, red dessert wine while Roditis is one of the most familiar and pleasant rose wines.
